All About Bitcoins Ep. 90

Bitcoins have been all over the news recently. The digital currency remains a mystery to most. We work to demystify the coins.

But what are they? Bitcoin is one of the first implementations of a concept called crypto-currency, which was first described in 1998 by Wei Dai on the cypherpunks mailing list. Think of it as the ultimate online bank. Only very secure and encrypted. Concept and specifications first appeared in 2009 by someone using the name Satoshi Nakamoto. He left at the end of 2010 and the person that created bitcoin is still unknown. Bitcoin took off in the summer of 2011 when it got international exposure. On September 27th 2012, the Bitcoin Foundation was created in an effort to standardize, protect, and promote Bitcoin.
